Perspective of Atticus Finch
Unfortunately my only assessment of the last few days is poor. Maybe terrible, hectic and stressful would be more accurate. Over the last few days, I was pressured by both the misguided public of Maycomb, and Bob Ewell, who tried to make me drop the case. Because of my morals, I was forced into a situation where its a white man's word against a black's, and I felt quite overwhelmed. There were many inconveniences to this trial. The typical white citizens of Maycomb have persecuted the Negroes for longer than we can ever imagine, and this recent case was no different.
Since this case came up, unluckily I was back into the role of a lawyer. Usually Maxwell Green handled all the cases, being new and all, but this case needed the best. For the sake of my ethics, I consented to take up this impossibly rigged case. I'm not bragging, but I'm the only lawyer who had a chance. When a black man allegedly raped a white girl, the case should be over in a heartbeat. As experienced as I am, the inevitable verdict was guilty. I still can't believe Maycomb could be so racist!
Question: If you were Atticus Finch and this case presented itself, would you take it even though it outcome was inevitable?
