1. In Simone's sacred place, where he had a seizure and passed out, the flies preferred the pig's meat and blood and flesh instead of Simone's.
2. Simon wanted to go on the mountaintop to see the beast. He wanted to do that because he was interested in how the beast would look like.
3. Simon used his hands to free the dead aviator's lines from the rocks, and put the beast in a more sheltered place.
4. When Piggy was talking to Ralph, Piggy said they should go to Jack's feast.
5. It would have looked awkward if Ralph and Piggy showed up, but it didn't because when one of the boys was delivering Piggy, pig meat he accidentally burned Piggy with the meat, that cracked everybody up.
6. Jack said that the conch doesn’t matter, that it’s unimportant in this part of the island. That means he doesn’t really care about it.
7. Towards the part when Jack challenged Ralph, the mood was awkward and shameful. It was an uncertain time until Jack told them to dance and sing their chant, weather- wise it was with black skies and stormy with the promise of rain.
8. Driven already by savagery and bloodlust, they chanted about slaughtering the beast. They chanted “kill the beast, cut his throat, and spill his blood”.
9. Simon emerged in the middle of the chant, with his dire warning. Before he could express the message he was brutally murdered, by the enraged savages.
I believe that Jack is the single most responsible person to kill Simon. He was the person who encouraged their death chant. He has helped create savagery by having the boys paint their faces. He has always been a violent character, but it’s not entirely his fault. Without the incarnate darkness of humanity he would not have been evil. More importantly all the boys, even Piggy and Ralph did nothing to stop the enormity, they even helped kill Simon. All the boys were partly responsible in the death of Simon. I believe the death chant, “kill the beast, cut his throat, spill his blood was essential to the death of Simon because it clouded all the boys’ judgment, and encouraged killing the “beast”. Jack has always induced savagery into all his subjects. The parts of the book showing Jack delight in the slaughter of pigs, is one of the reason’s supporting Jacks helping to kill Simon. Although as I already said it’s not entirely Jack’s fault.
So the unwanted, uninvited darkness in the world was perhaps the true reason that Simon died in the lord of the flies. But technically Jack killed Simon.
